Romero

This is a Titan Arum, otherwise known as a "corpse flower," nearly ready to bloom at the botanical gardens. It's a pretty big deal, since these plants usually only bloom every 6+ years, are the largest flower in the world (technically it's not a single flower, but an unbranched flower cluster) and are only open for a day or two at most. And they smell like rank, rotting flesh. Also they've nicknamed it Romero--yes, after the zombie guy! They're hoping it'll open this week, and there will be some festivities to celebrate it, which I will of course be attending.

And you don't have to be a student of Latin to figure out what its scientific name Amorphophallos titanum means.

Though Romero likely won't be as big as the one in the video, it's still about 4 feet tall.
